Leona entertained and educated us to a new technique called "Acrylic Pouring". This is a colorful way of utilizing the thick and bright colors of acrylics to create unusual effects on canvas or boards.

Our scheduled artist, Pam Caballero had to withdraw due to personal issues. Vice President Lauren Morone was able to fill in with an interesting take on Portrait Characterization. Members and guests were delighted and entertained with her presentation.

Local artist Leona Lavone loves to experiment with all painting techniques. At this demonstration she showed members how to work on watercolor paper on which gesso had been applied to change the surface and allow the artist to create fascinating effects with watercolor, india ink, twigs, and other interesting applications. You had to be there to appreciate the intricacies of her work. We hope more artists will join us when programming begins in September.

Members and guests participated in a day-long workshop at Brick Twp. High School by award winning artist and member of the Laurelton Art Society Lou Riccio. Lou is an award winning artist who recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award a Ocean County "Man of the Year". We shared our love of the art of oil painting as Lou instructed us in the many techniques once used by "Old Masters".

Kathy Gregitis, certified Zentangle teacher, presented a mini-workshop at our regular meeting. Members were treated to hands-on instruction in this new relaxation technique which is a non-verbal language of patterns and proportions which allows an artist to get inspirations, ideas, and answers.

Member Arlene Newman is an expert in the use of acrylics for "ala prima" painting. She introduced us to a new type of resin based paint created by the David Jansen company which allows the artist to paint "ala prima" or "wet on wet" similar to the method used by famous impressionist oil painters. Ed Hicks was featured at our Oct. meeting. He demonstrated his techniques in creation of a landscape in pastel. Ed loves the vibrancy of pastels and he shared that excitement with us. Painting for over 30 years his work ranges from portraiture and figurative to landscape and still life. His is best known for his book of illustrations and poetry "Through a Faery Stone" which was published in 2007. During the demonstration he noted the benefits of copying from “old masters”.
